MacVim is a port of the text editor Vim to Mac OS X that is meant to look better and integrate more seamlessly with the Mac than the older Carbon port of Vim. MacVim supports multiple windows with tabbed editing and a host of other features such as: bindings to standard OS X keyboard shortcuts (⌘-Z, ⌘-V, ⌘-A, ⌘-G, etc.). All $ make does is build Vim in vim/src; it doesn't install it or any of its dependency. To install the Vim you just built you need to do $ sudo make install. Since the OP only did $ make, nothing happened outside of vim/: Vim was not installed so he doesn't have to do anything. – romainl Sep 13 '18 at 5:42.

Vim For Mac

Vim is a highly configurable text editor for Windows PC. built to enable efficient text editing. It is an improved version of the vi editor distributed with most UNIX systems. The program is often called a 'programmer's editor,' and so useful for programming that many consider it an entire IDE. It's not just for programmers, though. Vim for PC is perfect for all kinds of text editing, from composing email to editing configuration files. Despite what the above comic suggests, The tool can be configured to work in a very simple (Notepad-like) way, called evim or Easy Vim.
The tool isn't an editor designed to hold its users' hands. It is a tool, the use of which must be learned. The app isn't a word processor. Although it can display text with various forms of highlighting and formatting, it isn't there to provide WYSIWYG editing of typeset documents. (It is great for editing TeX, though.) Vim for Windows is an advanced text editor that seeks to provide the power of the de-facto Unix editor 'Vi', with a more complete feature set. It's useful whether you're already using vi or using a different editor.
